I am a former lawyer, now working as a sales representative with Royal LePage Team Realty in Ottawa. I was considered an expert in Aboriginal law and negotiations for most of my career in law. I studied Negotiations at Harvard in 1993, and taught Negotiations and Mediation at Queens University as well as Property Law at the University of Ottawa.
With that background, why am I in real estate? Well, after 30+ years in law, I was ready to do something else. My father was a carpenter who also built additions, and occasionally houses, so I grew up with the smell of sawdust and a high regard for good trades. I’ve always loved doing renovations and transforming tired houses into something spectacular. Real estate, with my background in negotiations, seemed like a natural fit.
I now do five or six renos a year for clients, and I’ve discovered I love staging homes for sale too. You can check out the page at the top of this blog, called Before-and-Afters, to see some of those transformations.
I am pleased to say that I hit the President’s Gold award level last year, so I’m sure I made the right decision. My only regret is that I didn’t switch careers sooner! I’m a very lucky person: I get to work with great clients (see testimonials in the side bar, from some of them) and do something I love, so I never feel like I’m working.
If I can be of any assistance to you, feel free to call! I’d be happy to walk through your home with you and provide some suggestions on how you can get it ready for sale. And if you’re a buyer, there’s nothing I enjoy more than looking at properties and giving you my thoughts.
